Costco to offer discounted annual pass for Disney’s California Adventure Park

Disneyland Annual Passholders were shocked and dismayed last year when Disney announced the highest tier of it’s annual admission pass would increase to an astounding $1,049 per year. The Disneyland Deluxe Passport, which is the lowest tier for non-Californian residents, increased to $599 a year. The news of a discounted annual pass is encouraging to families who typically pay between $95 to $119 for a one day entry ticket.

Costco Discounted Annual Pass

For a limited time Costco will be offering an annual pass for Disney’s California Adventure Park. The annual pass would provide entry to this park exclusively. Guests who want to visit both parks, would need to purchase a traditional annual pass or park hopper ticket.

The California Adventure Annual Pass will be offered at Southern California Costco locations and online until December 1st. According to the OC Register, the Costco Disney Annual Pass – which costs $330 – will include annual admission, an exclusive collector’s pin and a 10% discount on food and merchandise. Like other Disney annual passports, this pass will have blackout dates, approximately 60 days which consist of mostly holidays and Saturdays in the summer.

To compare, the bottom tier Disney Annual Pass which includes admission to both parks costs $329 a year, and is blocked out on weekends, and most of June, July and December.

This isn’t the first time Disney has offered a special annual pass for California Adventure. Back when the park first opened, Disney offered a similar pass to encourage guests to visit the new park. California Adventure experienced issues early on, under performing and missing attendance expectations. Fortunately park attendance has seen a surge since the opening of Cars Land in June 2012.

What’s New at California Adventure

While Disneyland’s sister park, only receives about half the annual visits as it’s older sibling, California Adventure offers plenty to park guests. A lot has happened since the park opened in 2001, including the addition of Cars Land and a major park overhaul.

This year, the park added new attractions including Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters and Soarin’ Around the World. California Adventure also debut a new stage show, “Frozen Live at the Hyperion.” Disney also announced that the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction would be closing in January and re-opening as a Guardians of the Galaxy themed ride next summer.

Besides the great attractions, California Adventure also offers some sophisticated dining experiences. Check out the best restaurants at California Adventure before your next visit to the park.

Based on the Disneyland website, peak times include the Thanksgiving break – November 18th and the 27th, and most of December. There are no value days in December, but guests can enter the park for $105 on December 1st, 5th through 8th, and from the 12th to the 15th.
