Descendants 2 Disney Channel Movie First Look

Descendants 2 Premieres in 2017 and Here’s a First Look.

In 2015, Disney Channel released it’s 99th original movie with Descendants, a story about the children of fairy tale heroes and villains. The story takes place in a world where villains have been banished to the Isle of the Lost by King Beast, the ruler of the United States of Auradon. The film stars big names like Kristin Chenoweth and Kathy Najimy (of Hocus Pocus). It also stars Dove Cameron of Liv and Maddie fame. Disney Channel will follow up it’s big hit with Descendants 2, set to premiere in 2017.

A New Look

Disney Channel released a first look at Descendants 2 featuring some new looks for its cast of heroes and villains. We’re happy to see Mal’s got a new hair-do. That short purple wig in the first film was not a good look. Mal’s costume’s also had an update with a new jacket, leather leggings and platform boots. Prince Ben seems to have gotten an Isle of the Lost makeover, ditching his princely prep look for some grungier duds. Evie’s ditched the turtleneck caplet for a form fitting leather jacket-skirt combo. They’ve switched up her leggings, and swapped black leather gloves for red ones. Evie’s also sporting one of this year’s hottest trends, with her red choker.

The Plot

The plot of Descendants revolved around the coronation of Prince Ben, the son of Belle and the Beast. One of his first acts as ruler was to proclaim that the children of the Isle of the Lost have a chance to live in Auradon, away from the influence of their villainous parents. While the children have ulterior motives at first, they learn to like it in Auradon and decide to defy their parents – Maleficent, Evil Queeen, Cruella and Jafar.

In Descendants 2 we find Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay attempting to assimilate into Auradon culture. The pressures of royalty become too much for Mal, who returns to her evil roots on the Isle of the Lost where she must face off with Uma – daughter of the sea witch Ursula. Uma is now self-proclaimed queen of the Isle, and asks Captain Hook’s son Harry and Gaston’s son Gil to break the barrier between the Isle and Auradon to unleash the villains for good.

The Ratings

Descendants performed well for Disney Channel, becoming the fourth most-watched cable TV movie since 2007 with 10.54 million viewers, reported by Variety. It was the number one cable movie of 2015 in total viewers. Only three cable movies performed better in the last eight years – “High School Musical 2” (18.22 million), “Wizards of Waverly Movie” (13.25 million) and “Teen Beach Movie” (11.92 million).

Sequels tend to perform better than their first installments, so Disney Channel should be in for another huge hit with Descendants 2.
