Enchanted Sequel, Disenchanted Names Director
Almost 10 years after the original film debut, the sequel to Enchanted has a Director
For almost six years, Disney has been at work developing a sequel to Enchanted, a film that earned $340.5 million at the box office. Today the studio announced it would begin filming the sequel next year, on the tenth anniversary of the original film. Disney has also named it’s new director, Adam Shankman. While the original director will not be returning, some familiar faces are in talks to return.
Disenchanted
Disenchanted, the sequel to the 2007 musical staring Amy Adams, will take place ten years after the events of the first film. In the sequel we’ll find Giselle questioning her happy ending. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Giselle isn’t certain Robert is then man of her dreams. While questioning her happily ever after, Giselle accidentally triggers a series of events that will effect the lives of everyone in both the real and animated worlds.
A New Director
When the sequel to Enchanted begins filming it will have a new director. Kevin Lima directed the original film, starring Amy Adams (Giselle), James Marsden (Prince Charming) and Patrick Dempsey (Robert) – about a princess who’s thrust into the real world after being tricked by her evil step mother. Lima was a Disney veteran before directing Enchanted, having directed Tarzan, A Goofy Movie and 102 Dalmations. Enchanted also starred Idina Menzel who went on to play the voice of Elsa in Disney’s animated hit Frozen.
Disenchanted will be directed by Adam Shankman of Hairspray fame. Shankman is well known for directing light-hearted comedies like Bringing Down the House, Bedtime Stories and The Pacifier. His experience with musicals includes directing film adaptations of Broadway hits including Hairspray and Rock of Ages.
Disenchanted is slated to hit theaters in 2017. Amy Adams will reprise her role as Giselle. Will you see the sequel in theaters?
