‘Once Upon a Time’ a New Projection Show is Coming to Magic Kingdom Park

One of the best moments of a day at a Disney Parks is the kiss goodnight. That’s what Disney affectionately calls it’s night time fireworks – and now projection – shows. For the past year guests of the Magic Kingdom Park have been entertained by “Celebrate the Magic” a beautiful projection and pyrotechnic show, but as of November 3rd, guests will be in for a new treat.

In just a few days “Celebrate the Magic” will be replaced by “Once Upon a Time” a new projection show that was inspired by the Tokyo Disneyland Park’s projection show of the same name. The show will use projection mapping technology to cover every piece of Cinderella’s Castle in vibrant images that appear almost three-dimensional.

Mrs. Potts and Chip from “Beauty and the Beast” are the stars of the new show. When the show begins, we’ll find Mrs. Potts putting Chip to bed with bedtime stories from the Disney Vault. Guests will go on an adventurous journey through scenes from classic Disney films like “Cinderella,” “Peter Pan,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.”

No projection show is complete without a flight to London with Peter Pan, Wendy and the crew. Other favorite scenes include a duel between Gaston and Beast, and the “Beauty and the Beast” ballroom scene. Be sure to stay for the grand finale that will include appearances by characters from even more Disney films.

While projection mapping has added extra value and entertainment to Disney nighttime spectaculars, there are limited viewing areas where you can take in the full effect of the projection. Take advantage of fast passes when possible, or come early to ensure a great spot. Show times are printed on park maps, but you can also access show times using the My Disney Experience app. The app is also helpful for finding out attraction wait times, and booking fast passes and dining reservations.
