Disney to Launch MaxPass and Expand Disney FASTPASS

The Disney FASTPASS program has made it easier to ride the park’s most popular attractions. Now the program is expanding to include two more popular attractions.

Editorial Content Director for the Disneyland Resort Erin Glover announced the new additions in a post on the Disney Parks Blog, “Today, I’m excited to announce further expansion of the Disney FASTPASS coming to two of our most popular attractions – Toy Story Mania in Disney California Adventure Park and Matterhorn Bobsleds in Disneyland park.”

The Disney FASTPASS program launched at Walt Disney World in 1999 as a way to help guests gain faster access to the park’s most popular attractions. A ride that could take 1 to 2 hours can take a fraction of that time if you have a FASTPASS. Adding FASTPASS distribution to the Toy Story Mania attraction was a good move. Wait times are consistently over 40 minutes.

The Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland Park was an interesting choice. While wait times can get up to 90 minutes at peak times during high attendance days, there are many times where you can ride the popular ride for under 30 minutes. A better choice would have been Peter Pan’s Flight, a Fantasy Land attraction that is one of the park’s most popular, and one of the few for very young children. The ride consistently has wait times over 60 minutes.

In addition to expanding the FASTPASS program, the park is launching a new service called Disney MaxPass. Disney MaxPass will give guests unlimited PhotoPass downloads and allow you to book FASTPASS reservations ahead of time from your mobile device for a daily fee of $10. A 4 x 6 digital download from Disney PhotoPass costs around $15, so the $10 a day fee isn’t a hefty price to pay if you plan on purchasing any park photos.

Disneyland Resort Annual Passholders will have the opportunity to purchase Disney MaxPass on a daily or yearly basis. Park guests can still take advantage of the free FASTPASS system by visiting the ride kiosks where fastpasses are distributed.

Launch dates have yet to be announced.
