 The Main Street Electrical Parade Returns

This year, the Main Street Electrical Parade celebrates its 45 anniversary. Gone since 1996, for the first time in over 20 years guests of Disneyland Park can watch the magnificent light parade make its way down Main Street U.S.A. The Main Street Electrical Parade was returned from Disneyland in 1996, after 24 years of entertaining fans. The parade returned to California in 2001, when it debut at California Adventure Park as Disney’s Electrical Parade.

In the years since, The Main Street Electrical Parade has made its way through several Disney Parks including Tokyo Disneyland. Most recently, the parade called Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park home.

The first ever light parade was created by Bob Jani and project director Ron Miziker. The parade features thousands of electronically controlled lights, and a synchronized soundtrack triggered by radio control. The Main Street Electrical Parade was commissioned by Card Walker after the successful debut of the Electrical Water Pageant.

The Main Street Electrical Parade was performed more than 3,600 times for over 75 million guests according to the Disney Parks Blog.

On January 19th, a limited number of guests will be able to view the Main Street Electrical Parade before its official return to Disneyland on January 20th. Disney is commemorating the parade’s return with a one-night premiere event that will take you back to 1972, when the light parade made its initial debut. The event will start at 7:30 p.m. when the park will close to non-party guests. The event will go on until midnight.

The Main Street Electrical Parade Premiere event ticket includes:

  • Admission to the park from 7:30 pm – midnight
  • Viewing of the parade
  • Collectible event credential
  • A red carpet welcome
  • Access to most park attractions
  • A 70s dance party at the Tomorrowland Terrace
  • Special Disney PhotoPass locations
  • Complimentary photo downloads
  • Complimentary parking

Tickets are on sale now for $95 per person. Admission is not required for children under 3 years old. You can purchase your tickets at a Disney Resort Ticket booth in advance, or call 714.781.4636. Unfortunately, you can’t purchase tickets online.

Guests who can’t afford to shell out $95 per person can wait just one day to view the parade during regular park hours.
