Your Favorite Doc is Back for Season 5

Disney Junior has ordered a fifth season of the show that earned the a Peabody Award. Since “Doc McStuffins” debut in March 2012, the animated series has received much acclaim for it’s portrayal of a young girl who dreams of becoming a doctor like her mother. “Doc McStuffins” embodies the hallmarks of Disney storytelling – fantasy and wish fulfillment. The series teaches children compassion, and good health. The announcement was made by Nancy Kanter, executive vice president and general manager, Disney Junior Worldwide.

Doc McStuffin Gets Renewed

“‘Doc McStuffins’ is an unmistakable example of our commitment to powerful storytelling that enriches and enlightens kids,” Kanter said. “I can think of no other children’s television show in recent history that has touched as many lives and made the kind of impact around the world that Doc has. Earlier this year a petition to save the show was posted to Change.org when rumors spread the show wouldn’t be back for a fifth season. The network never had any attention of cancelling the show. “Our viewers have forged a deep connection with this series and are very vocal about how strongly they believe in these characters. We are excited to share with them many more stories about Doc and her toys when season five begins airing in 2018,” noted Kanter.

More than a Cartoon

Doc MacStuffins is much more than a cartoon, it’s a movement. Shortly after the series launched on Disney Junior, a group of female African-American physicians began a “movement” they called “We are Doc McStuffins.” The group grew to form the Artemis Medical Society, an organization which now boasts a membership of over 4,700 women physicians of color from around the world.

Notable Fans

The show has earned many notable fans including socio-political comedian W. Kamau Bell who called the show, “one of the most important shows in the history of television.” Even first lady Michelle Obama is a fan, guest-starring as herself for a special episode. Other notable guest-stars include Anthony Anderson (Blackish), Audra McDonald (Private Practice), Geena Davis (Thelma & Luise), David Copperfield (The Magic of David Copperfield), Taye Diggs (Chicago), Patton Oswalt (The Goldbergs) and Carson Daly (Last Call).

Acclaim

“Doc McStuffins” has been honored with the prestigious Peabody Award recognizing outstanding storytelling in electronic media, and an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Children’s Program. The show has consistently been a top 10 preschool cable TV series in its key demographics. “Doc McStuffins” averages 16 million viewers worldwide each quarter. Along with critical acclaim, the show has inspired an immersive traveling museum exhibit designed for kids aged 2 to 7. The exhibit is currently being held at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.
