The Collector’s Fortress is Underway at California Adventure Park

The sign on the iconic Hollywood Tower Hotel in Disney’s California Adventure Park has been taken down as imagineers prepare the attraction for it’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” makeover. Discover more about the Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout attraction.

While some fans shed tears over the loss of the Hollywood Tower of Terror, this Disney fan’s super stoked about Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout. The Tower of Terror was always a bit creepy to me. It’s hard enough to get me on a ride with multiple unexpected drops, but the attraction’s ghost theme made it even harder to enjoy. From what we know now, the ride itself will be similar incorporating several multi-story drops.

When Gaurdians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout opens in summer 2017, gone will be the creepy Twilight Zone and haunting references. Instead, park guests will explore the Collector’s fortress, and help the Guardians escape captivity.

While the exterior of the attraction isn’t exactly what I’d call pretty, it may help draw more male guests to the park. Imagineers were inspired by oil refineries and classic comic book colors. Get a look at how the attraction will look when it’s completed in the video above.

The Collector

Who is the Collector exactly, and what role does he play in Guardians of the Galaxy? In the first film we’re briefly introduced to the Collector, also known as Taneleer Tivan. It’s Tivan who reveals the Infinity Stone in the film, an item of immeasurable power that destroys all but the most powerful beings who wield it.

In the Marvel Universe, the Collector is one of the oldest living beings in the universe. He’s virtually immortal, and yeah he likes to collect things. The Collector’s wife passed away after losing her will to live. Determined not to suffer the same fate as his wife, the Collector sought out a his life’s purpose. After receiving a vision of the end of the world, the Collector devoted his life to collecting living beings and artifacts from the known universe, so that should the end come he could repopulate the universe.

As for what role the Collector will play in the Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout attraction we’ll just have to wait and see.
