This Year’s Hottest Costume is Elena of Avalor

Forget About Elsa, This Year It’s All About Elena

Elena of Avalor only debut on Disney Channel a few short weeks ago, and already her costume is in high demand at the parks and in stores. The series currently ranks as this year’s number one show among all kid-targeted TV networks in total viewers, Kids aged 2-11 and Adults 18-49. As a result, retailers are finding it difficult to keep shelves stocked with the princess’ signature red dress.

This isn’t the first time a Disney princess dress has been in overwhelming demand. In 2013 Disney had a similar problem on their hands when Frozen items flew off the shelves quicker than they could be replenished. Retailers had underestimated the demand for all things Frozen, leaving parents struggling to secure Elsa’s glittery gown by Halloween.

Elena at Magic Kingdom

Elena made her royal debut at the Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World on August 11th. Guests of the park will soon be able to visit The Bippity Boppity Boutique for an Elena style makeover. The Bippity Boppity Boutique is a small hair studio that offers princess makeovers to guests of Disney parks and Harrods Department Store in London.

Why so popular?

Other than the fact that it’s one adorable costume, it’s the dress worn by Disney’s first Latina princess on her coronation day. Generations of women are thankful there’s finally a princess they can relate to, that shares their cultural background and physical characteristics. It’s the first time Latin girls have a princess of their very own to dress up as. Elena is not your typical princess for many reasons. She’s bold, adventurous and determined to succeed.
